The Swedish Cultural Society of Vancouver

The Swedish Cultural Society of Vancouver is a cultural organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Swedish heritage in the Burnaby, BC community. Based at the Scandinavian Community Centre, the organization offers a comprehensive range of programs and activities designed to celebrate Swedish traditions while fostering cross-cultural understanding. The Society operates the Swedish School, providing education in Swedish language and culture for members of all ages, alongside adult language classes that serve both heritage learners and those new to the Swedish language. Beyond educational offerings, the organization hosts a vibrant calendar of traditional Swedish celebrations throughout the year, including the Lucia Celebration, Midsummer Festival, Valborg (Valpurgis Day), National Day observances, and the popular Christmas Fair featuring Swedish vendors and authentic Scandinavian cuisine. The Society welcomes volunteers who wish to participate in program activities and event planning, creating opportunities for community members to actively engage with Swedish cultural traditions. As part of the broader Sweden House Society, which also encompasses Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, and Finland House Societies at the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby, the organization maintains strong connections with Swedish communities both locally and internationally.
