About Swedish Women’s Educational Association Washington DC

SWEA Washington DC is a vibrant chapter of SWEA International dedicated to fostering connections among Swedish women in the Washington, DC area. Founded on February 3, 2000, the organization has grown to serve approximately 120 active members who share a passion for Swedish culture and community engagement. The chapter organizes a diverse array of programs and events throughout the year, designed to celebrate Swedish traditions while building meaningful relationships among members and their families.

The organization hosts signature annual events that have become beloved traditions in the Washington, DC community. These include the Swedish Holiday Market in December, featuring authentic Swedish crafts and seasonal offerings; a traditional pea soup gathering in April; and a festive crayfish celebration in September. Beyond these flagship events, SWEA Washington DC arranges regular lunch and evening meetings featuring invited guest speakers, cultural excursions, study visits, author evenings, concerts, and exhibitions.

As a chapter of the global SWEA International organization, SWEA Washington DC actively works to spread Swedish culture and celebrate Swedish holidays throughout the Washington area. The chapter provides members with opportunities to make new contacts, find support, and build lasting friendships. Whether attending cultural events, participating in educational programs, or simply gathering with like-minded women, members of SWEA Washington DC discover a welcoming community that values connection, cultural preservation, and mutual support.
