Swedish Women's Educational Association Michigan is a premier cultural organization dedicated to promoting Swedish language, culture, and tradition throughout the Detroit, MI community and beyond. As the largest organization outside Sweden committed to this mission, SWEA Michigan provides comprehensive programming and cultural initiatives for women of diverse backgrounds and ages. Founded in 1991, the organization has grown to include approximately 60 active members who engage in regular cultural events, educational activities, and community gatherings. SWEA Michigan serves as a vital bridge between Swedish heritage and contemporary life, offering members opportunities to connect with their roots while building meaningful relationships within the Detroit area. The organization functions as a professional networking hub that provides valuable support and connections for Swedish industry professionals and entrepreneurs abroad. Beyond its local presence in Detroit, SWEA Michigan is part of an international network represented in numerous locations worldwide, playing an important role in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' emergency planning initiatives.
