Swedish Women's Educational Association Houston offers a vibrant community of cultural engagement and Swedish heritage activities for women in Houston, TX and surrounding areas. As part of the global SWEA International network spanning 77 branches across 30 countries on 5 continents, SWEA Houston brings authentic Swedish programming and connection to the local community. With approximately 45 active members of varying ages, the organization facilitates diverse activities including cultural meetings, book clubs, organized walks, social lunches, and digital webinars that celebrate Swedish language, traditions, and holidays. Members participate in Swedish cultural celebrations throughout the year, creating meaningful opportunities to maintain and share Swedish heritage. Founded in 2003, SWEA Houston operates as part of the MAME region covering Middle America, which includes nine departments spanning from Canada to Florida. The organization builds upon the legacy of SVEA of Texas, which operated from 1980-2003, continuing a tradition of supporting Swedish women abroad. Whether through in-person gatherings or virtual programming, SWEA Houston provides Houston-area members with structured opportunities to connect with others who share Swedish cultural interests and maintain ties to their heritage.
