Swedish Women's Educational Association Austin is a vibrant community organization dedicated to fostering connections among Swedish and Swedish-speaking women in the Austin, TX area. As part of the global SWEA network—the largest non-profit Sweden-promoting organization outside Sweden with over 6,000 members worldwide—SWEA Austin provides members with meaningful opportunities to celebrate Swedish heritage and build lasting friendships. Founded in 2005, the organization has grown to serve 40-50 active members who share a passion for Swedish culture and traditions. SWEA Austin organizes regular activities throughout the year centered on beloved Swedish celebrations and cultural experiences. Members gather to celebrate traditional holidays including Valborg, Midsummer, Lucia, and Kräftskiva, while also enjoying contemporary Swedish entertainment such as movie nights, Melodifestivalen viewing parties, and live music events. The organization recognizes the rich Swedish roots embedded in the Austin community and takes pride in discovering and celebrating these deep cultural connections. For families, SWEA Austin offers specialized toddler groups that meet periodically, allowing children to connect with peers while developing their Swedish language skills in a supportive environment.
