Swedish Club of Denver

The Swedish Genealogical Society of Colorado (SGSC) is a specialized family history organization serving the Denver, CO community and beyond, dedicated to helping members research and preserve their Swedish-American heritage. Founded in 2007 by descendants of Swedish immigrants, SGSC has grown to over 100 members who share a passion for genealogical research and cultural preservation. The organization provides comprehensive genealogical research assistance through monthly educational programs that cover Swedish history, genealogy, and culture, with past topics including accessing historic parish maps, preserving family documents, and utilizing electronic Swedish data sources such as church parish records and census records. SGSC members benefit from guided instruction in genealogical research methodologies, quality documentation standards, and access to shared knowledge about tracing roots both in North America and back to ancestral homelands in Sweden. The society actively collects, shares, and disseminates genealogical information specific to Swedish immigrants and their descendants throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region. In addition to research support, SGSC sponsors cultural events including the popular annual Julbord Christmas celebration featuring traditional Swedish foods and music, and has organized Swedish Family Research Fairs and hosted major genealogical conferences. The organization collaborates with libraries and other genealogical institutions to expand resources and opportunities for members and the general public interested in Swedish-American family history.
